Rules Sanction and Status

This event is governed by the Professional Windsurfers Association (PWA) Rulebook and is sanctioned by the PWA as a world cup status event as part of the 2018 PWA World Tour.

Competition Details

The competition is a Slalom World Cup that will take place at Jinha Beach, Ulsan, South Korea from the May 2018.

IMPORTANT ? COMPETITION MAY START ON THE 19th May

Registration will take place between 10.00 and 12.00 on the 19th May at the event site.

Equipment Registration will take place between 10.00 and 11.00 on the 19th May at the event site. ? ALL EQUIPMENT MUST BE REGISTERED DURING THIS TIME

The first skippers meeting will be at 13.30 on the 19th May with the first possible start at 14.30

The discipline will be Slalom with a maximum of 15 rounds.

The final day of competition will be 24th May.

Advertising

According to PWA Rules, competitors will be required to carry sail stickers and wear advertising vests. All other advertising on sails and boards will be according to PWA Advertising Rules.

 

Transport

Transport will be provided for all sailors and their equipment from Busan / Incheon to the event site from 17th May.

Equipment transport will be provided from Incheon, but only for equipment and not for sailors themselves who must ensure that they book their flights including the domestic connection to Busan.

After the event, transfers will be provided back to the airports from 21:00 on the 24th until the 26th May. Any sailors requiring equipment transportation outside these times and dates will have to pay the transport costs themselves.

 

Sailors should be aware that they need to ensure their final airport is Busan (KimHae International) and not Incheon (Seoul). There will not be any transportation from Ulsan.

To go to BUSAN through GIMPO airport, sailors are advised to take the limousine buses at INCHEON airport. Bus fare is approximately 7,000 KRW

Upon arrival at Incheon airport local staff will be waiting for you with a PWA event poster, they will inform you where the designated loading area is to leave your equipment, this will be at Gate 1 in Incheon airport.

When arriving in Busan airport look out for local staff with the PWA event poster, they will then take you to your shuttle bus to the event site.

 

In case of arrival dates earlier than the 17th May, sailors must pay the delivery cost of equipment from ICN or PUS airports to Jinha Beach. The organizers can provide equipment transfers earlier (on request) however sailors must pay for this themselves.

IMPORTANT - When sending arrival and departure information, sailors must supply all information listed below. It is especially important that you inform us of how many bags you will be bringing and subsequently departing with and what size they are.

Equipment transfer between Japan and Korea 

For the sailors competing in both Japan and Korea, we are expecting to provide an equipment transport service between the two events, however details are not finalized yet, we will send out an update ASAP.

 

Accommodation

All competitors will pay an entry fee of $230 direct to the organizers which will entitle them to hotel accommodation and three meals per day for the duration of the event. Accommodation shall be available to the competitors to check in at 12:00 from the 18th May and to check out at 12:00 on 25th May 2017. Any additional nights’ accommodation required by competitors shall be charged at a rate of no more than $35 (thirty five United States Dollars) per day.

 

Storage and Facilities

There will be secure storage for all sailors’ equipment on site from the 17th ? 25th May.

 

Conditions

Wind conditions are entirely variable depending on prevailing weather patterns.

Water temperate above 20C, wind speed 0-30 knots and air temperate 20-28C

Official Functions.

Sailors will be required to attend an Official Opening Ceremony on the 19th May at 14:00 (Location - PWA office Jinha Beach), and an Official prize giving on the 24th May at 19:00 at the event site main stage on Jinha beach so please make travel arrangements accordingly. Further details will be published by email or at registration.

 

Sail Numbers

All sailors will be required to carry clearly legible sail numbers. These will be required for all disciplines and should be of a type such as those specified in the PWA Rulebook. Hand drawn numbers or numbers made of tape or stickers shall not be permitted. Sailors without suitable sail numbers may not be permitted to compete.

 

Sailors should be aware that they will be promoting the sport under public scrutiny. Any sail numbers, branding or other publicly viewable items or equipment, considered to be detrimental to the sport, the event or the PWA shall not be allowed. Suitability of such items shall be at the discretion of the PWA. Let’s make sure it looks good for the crowd and media.

 

Membership Fees

All sailors will be required to pay membership fees as specified below.

Fees can be paid online up to 72 hours in advance through the PayPal link below. After the 72 hour deadline fees must be paid in cash at registration but will be subject to a $15 surcharge.

Trialists Local Wildcards and any other sailors awarded entry after the deadline will be exempt from the $15 surcharge.

Late payment will be charged at a rate of €20 per day.

Please note, that sailors must still attend the official registration on site ? failure to attend the official event registration may result in disqualification and a fine.

 

All online payments include an additional 2.9% transaction fee which is in accordance with PayPal’s transaction costs.

ANY PAYMENTS MADE ONLINE LESS THAN 72 HOURS BEFORE REGISTRATION WILL NOT BE PROCESSED AND CASH WILL BE DUE AT REGISTRATION.

 

A 3% PWA Membership tax deduction applies to all prize money, as part of the standard membership fee structure.
